posters solar system
How do I make a model of the solar system?

Okay, I have to make a scale of a how far the plants are from the sun, for school. I have to use the metric system, and I have to fit every thing one one sheet of poster paper (which is around 63 cm). Every attempted I have made, I have done it wrong please help.

If you set Neptune and the Sun 60 cm apart, approximate relative distances from the sun would be…

Mercury = 3/4 cm
Venus = 1.5 cm
Earth = 2 cm
Mars = 3 cm
Jupiter = 10.5 cm
Saturn = 19 cm
Uranus = 38 cm

To prove to yourself this is true look at the distance information in the link. The table gives distances in terms of AU. Earth is 1. Neptune is 30. If you set your scale for 2 cm for every AU, you get the above numbers.

At the Edge of the Solar System (Paperback)

At the Edge of the Solar System (Paperback)

$28.3

On August 24, 2006, the solar system lost its ninth planet! The astronomers` decision at the IAU General Assembly in Prague to demote Pluto had been precipitated by the discovery, beyond the orbit of Neptune, of a very rich population of Pluto-like objects. The study of the recently discovered remote celestial bodies grows ever more fascinating. Their great variety in color, shape, size, and orbit has astonished observers. What is more, studies of the composition of these new-found objects reveals that they among the most primitive objects in the solar system. In their simple and lively style, the authors of At the Edge of the Solar System alternate discussions on historical aspects and physical descriptions of the remote regions, as well as amazing findings from the cutting edge of research.Beginning with a description of the structure of the solar system, the authors look at the discoveries of Pluto and its moon Charon and show how our knowledge of this mysterious world grew over the last 80 years of its study. They then describe the origins of our solar system and look at the discoveries of the first unusual objects in the outer solar system – Chiron and the first Centaurs. They trace the discoveries of the first Kuiper Belt objects and introduce the wide range of bodies found in the outer solar system, including "Plutinos." Examining these objects in more detail, they then present the arguments concerning the status of Pluto and conclude with discussion of the essential characteristics of the Kuiper Belt and a look at how future observations may lead to yet more discoveries and a greater understanding of these bodies.

Impact Craters In The Solar System

Impact Craters In The Solar System

$129

Planetary surfaces throughout the Solar System, and the current interest in impacts on the Earth, attest to the importance of impact cratering as a geological process. Impact craters have been identified on all but one of the planetary surfaces we have explored. The authors document the wide variety of crater types that have been observed on the planetary surfaces explored to date, approaching the subject in the context of comparative planetology. Each chapter focusses on a specific crater morphology and discusses what the craters tell us about the surfaces of bodies on which they are found. This approach illustrates not only impact craters themselves, but also emphasizes similarities and differences in crater morphology throughout the Solar System and the implications thereof.

This book is an appealing, concise, and factual account of the chemistry of the solar system. The authors have set the scene by including entertaining historical accounts on how ideas developed, and together with new discoveries, shaped our current understandings. Engaging with a broad readership, the text includes basic facts about the chemical composition of the different bodies in the solar system, the major chemical processes involved in the formation of the Sun, planets, and small objects, and the chemical processes that determine their current chemical make-up. The book summarizes compositional data but focuses on the chemical processes and where relevant, it also emphasizes comparative planetology. There are numerous informative summary tables which illustrate the similarities (or differences) that help the reader to understand the processes described. Data are presented in graphical form which is useful for identifying common features of the major processes that determine the current chemical state of the planets.The book will interest general readers with a background in chemistry who would enjoy reading about the chemical diversity of the solar system`s objects. It will serve as an introductory textbook for graduate classes in planetary sciences but will also be very popular with professional researchers in academia and government, college professors, and postgraduate fellows.

Solar System Astrophysics

Solar System Astrophysics

$95.09

The book covers the field of solar system astrophysics beginning with basic tools of spherical astronomy and coordinate frames and celestial mechanics. Historical introductions precede the development and discussion in most chapters.After a basic treatment of the two- and restricted three-body system motions, perturbations are discussed, and then the Earth`s gravitational potential field and its effects on satellite orbits. Next follow chapters on the Earth-Moon system and the interior planets. Surfaces are treated as well as the interiors and atmospheres, developing appropriate mathematical tools and the basic geophysics, mineralogy, crystallography, and meteorology required for comprehension. Chapters 5 and 6 involve pedagogically clear, illustrated discussions of the numerical integration of the Adams-Williamson equation and the equations of state in planetary interiors. The discussion of rocks and minerals includes crystallography, essential for understanding the state of matter in planetary interiors and moon rocks. The atmospheres chapters includes detailed discussions of circulation, applicable also to the subsequent discussion of the gas giants. A comparative planetary approach is given to discussions of the atmospheric and ionospheric chemistry, magnetospheres, and crustal properties. The giant planets are discussed together, and the thermal excess of three of them highlighted. This is followed by chapters on moons and rIngs, mainly in the context of dynamical stability, comets and meteors, meteorites and asteroids, and concludes with an extensive discussion of extrasolar planets. The material has been updated in the last few months to take advantage of the newer discoveries of the Mars Rover and the Saturn Cassini missions.

Motor Movies - the Posters!

Motor Movies – the Posters!

$64.09

From the late 19th century the progress of the movies has paralleled that of the motorcar. Now, for the first time, these developments are chronicled through the medium of the Movie Poster. The book celebrates the progression from the simple and crude, through the functional, the ambitious, the barking mad, right up to today’s high-tech, computer generated, often soulless examples of both cinema and automobile. By charting the poster art of the movies chronologically, the book takes you on a journey through the 20th Century in black and white, sepia, hand coloring, stone-litho, and glorious Technicolor. The book shows the obsessively accurate, the artist’s impression, the photographic and the wildly imaginative depictions of the automobile. The development of product placement in marketing is well-illustrated. Why did the Mustang appear in so little publicity for Bullitt? Where was the Mini in most of the world’s publicity for The Italian Job? Why wasn’t the Alfa Romeo Dueto prominent in the advertising of The Graduate? The book doesn’t provide intricate plot lines or vast cast lists; there are many reference works, both in books and on-line that supply this detail. Instead it shows how different countries promoted the same movie and give a brief guide to buying posters of movies safely. Primarily this is a book to wallow in, beautifully photographed artwork is guaranteed to bring memories favorite cars in movies and gives a fascinating insight into the evolution of cinema, marketing and the automobile. With 250 color photos, this book is a fascinating feast in all respects. With 250 pictures of rare and original posters and a star rating system for rarity, this is a beautiful book to browse and a valuable investment guide.
