Is it safe to have 12v battery charged with solar panel inside car?

I have a 12v solar panel and charge controller. I was thinking of using it to charge a small 1.3ah 12v lead-acid battery. But since the place where I park my car on my way to work is very sunny, I was thinking of putting the solar panel on the dash and charging the battery while I’m at work during the day.

My question to you is this. Since it gets hot inside the car, would this cause a problem? I don’t know exactly how hot, temp-wise, but it’s probably somewhere between 80-100F on the extreme high end. Would this possibly explode the 12v battery?

If so, then I would charge the battery at home or in a place where it’s cooler. But this particular spot gets full sun all day long, which is why I thought it would be a good place. It’s just that it gets hot inside the car, even with the windows rolled down a crack. Don’t want to roll down too much because of possible theft or stealing the car.

I’d worry more about overcharging that tiny battery and killing it. Check the manufacturer’s direction, but one rule of thumb is max charge rate s 1/10 the capacity, which in this case is 0.13 amps or 130 mA. So 130 mA for 10 hours should recharge it if it started out flat. Any longer time or higher current will overcharge it and cause damage.

If your charge controller is good enough and sized for that battery, you should be ok.
